3 Reasons 3D Images are Better than Moulds for Orthodontics

There is no doubt that technology has changed our lives – from the way we communicate to how we watch movies and drive our cars. It has also provided amazing advancements in the healthcare field, orthodontics in particular. A perfect example of such an innovation is the advanced 3D imaging that Docbraces’ orthodontists use to diagnose and treat bite misalignments and crooked teeth.

Traditionally, orthodontists would take impressions of your teeth then pour plaster into the impressions to produce a model of your teeth.

Docbraces’ orthodontists, however, use state of the art, digital X-rays to take patient radiographs, resulting in a three dimensional image that allows the doctor, and patient, to see all aspects of an individual’s teeth and mouth.

Why are these images superior to the traditional X-ray? Here are 3 reasons to go 3D with Docbraces:

  1. It’s safe. Unlike traditional X-ray machines, which require film processing, digital X-rays require 90% less radiation exposure – making it even safer than the traditional method.
  2. It’s precise. The three dimensional images allow the mouth to be examined in far greater detail so the doctor can examine and diagnose treatment more accurately than ever before. The software can be used to view the teeth from any and every angle; orthodontists can even zoom in on individual teeth in order to maximize diagnosis. Ultimately, this reduces the total time you have to wear braces and the number of appointments required to finish treatment!
  3. 3D Imaging is quick and clean. Not only is the patient’s digital data transferred to a computer and displayed for immediate dental analysis, all the information is available from one scan that takes only a few seconds – meaning that for almost all patients, uncomfortable, messy and sticky moulds and impressions can be eliminated!

Thanks to advances like 3D imaging, the entire process of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment is more comfortable, quicker and more accurate than ever before. The process offers negligible amounts of radiation, higher quality of treatment and faster results. Add to this the ability to see and share your personal images, and there is no doubt this method is superior to those of the past.
