First visit

your teen’s first visit to docbraces

When you and your teen visit one of our docbraces clinics for a consultation, digital x-rays and pictures will be taken of their teeth and jaws, followed by a detailed examination by one of our Orthodontists. The Orthodontist will use the digital x-rays along with his or her visual exam findings to develop a treatment plan tailored to your teen's needs.

At this stage, one of our friendly treatment coordinators will review the details of the prescribed treatment plan, explore financing options with you to find a plan that fits within your budget, and answer any questions you may have.

Once all of the details are finalized, treatment can begin – even on the same day – and your teen will be on their way to having the happy, healthy smile that they deserve!

treatment options

The team at docbraces is committed to providing our teen patients with the best treatment possible, which means that we are dedicated to staying up to date on the latest treatment methods and technology, through continuing education. Based on our orthodontic expertise and the specific needs and wants of each patient, we are able to deliver a treatment method that is tailored to your teen. Two of our most popular treatment methods are braces and Invisalign. While both are great for improving oral health and aesthetics, there are some differences between the two.

Invisalign Teen

Invisalign Teen uses a series of clear, plastic aligners that are custom-made to discreetly and comfortably reposition a teenager’s teeth, based on a customized treatment plan created by your Orthodontist. The trays are virtually unnoticeable and can be removed at any time, which means cleaning and maintenance is simple, and your teenager can continue eating whatever they like.

Each set of Invisalign Teen trays are worn 22 hours a day and replaced every two weeks. Each new tray is slightly different and, over time, these subtle changes will cause a teenager’s teeth to slowly move into their desired position.

Best for aesthetic purposes, such as misaligned teeth, Invisalign Teen is ideal for older teenagers, ages 14 and up.

Braces

Braces technology has evolved so that they are far less noticeable and uncomfortable than they used to be. Best for fixing gaps in teeth, crowding, misalignment, overbite and underbite, braces are a functional solution for even the most complex cases. At docbraces, we offer clear braces, which are made out of a translucent ceramic material that does not stain, and friction-free braces, which do not require elastic or metal ties.

Clear braces are a great solution for those who don’t want to draw unwanted attention to their orthodontic treatment. Depending on the amount of treatment that is needed, clear braces may only be used for the upper front teeth, which are the teeth that are displayed most when smiling.

Friction-free braces utilize light, high-tech wires that move teeth faster and more comfortably than conventional materials. Without the need for tightening, fewer adjustments are required during treatment, while the ceramic and stainless steel used also give the brackets a smaller appearance.

Doc

To help make life a little easier, the docbraces team offers to accept assignment of insurance benefits for patients whose insurance policy includes orthodontic coverage. This means that you don’t have to go through the hassle of submitting insurance claims and waiting for reimbursement, because we do it for you, and subtract the insurance amount from your treatment cost right away!

Take advantage of this service by providing us with your insurance information when you come in for your consultation. With this information, we can communicate with your insurance provider and determine if your policy includes orthodontic coverage, the amount covered by your policy, and whether or not you are able to assign benefits to a third party.

questions from our patients

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign is a unique orthodontic system that straightens your teeth with clear plastic trays in place of wires and brackets. These aligners are custom-made for your smile, based on a treatment plan created specifically for you by your Orthodontist. Over the course of your treatment, you will be provided with a number of trays. Each Invisalign aligner tray makes small changes to your tooth and jaw alignment, moving your teeth into the desired position, as identified by your Orthodontist. Because the trays are clear, they provide patients with a discreet, “virtually invisible” approach to orthodontic treatment.

How long will treatment take?

Your treatment is as unique as you are, so there is no “one size fits all” length of time that you’ll wear your braces or undergo other forms of treatment. However, average treatment times typically range between six and 24 months and each case varies in complexity. docbraces uses the very latest in orthodontic treatment methodology and technology to ensure that you receive the highest quality treatment and outcome possible. Patients who practice good oral hygiene can also expect to have a positive impact on their treatment. Keeping up good habits like regularly flossing and brushing your teeth can also help your treatment go faster, as can complying with treatment recommendations like wearing your elastics.

Do braces hurt?

Although you might be familiar with the braces many people associate with orthodontic treatment, you’ll be pleased to know that the technology behind braces has come a very long way. Newer braces are much more flexible and comfortable, with most patients describing any discomfort as mild to moderate. You may experience discomfort only in the first few days of your treatment and/or after an adjustment. Over-the-counter medications like Tylenol or Advil are effective for reducing any discomfort you might feel during your treatment.
